Happy Monday everyone!
We’ve got some very exciting things in the works for you over in the Thrive With Less community, starting with two opportunities to see the film!
First, this Wednesday we’ll be hosting an event at the former Barnes and Noble space in East Lansing, MI. It’s going to be really special, not only will we be screening the film and having a discussion with you about it, but we’ll also be having a potluck dinner and participating in a community art project. We’re partnering with MSU Students for the Broad Art Museum, who have been working with a Los Angeles based artist named Fritz Haeg to create a giant crocheted rug for the opening of the new museum. The MSU and East Lansing communities have been helping in the creation of the piece, and, to make it even better, it’s all made through found and reclaimed materials. We hope you’ll check it out!

Next, we are thrilled to announce that we’ve been accepted into the East Lansing Film Festival’s Lake Michigan Film Competition. We’ll be showing our film as part of the festival, as well as competing against other films. The cool think about LMFC is that all the films in that competition have to have been produced in the states bordering the Great Lakes, so everything in that competition is a product of this midwest community we call home. Pretty cool! We’d really appreciate any help you can give in supporting us and spreading the word.
We do have one more announcement for you coming very soon, but I can’t say anything about it just yet…. Stay tuned though, we should have some information about it this week!
Lastly, thank you all so much for helping us out in the ArcLight Cinemas contest. We haven’t found out the results just yet, but we are hopeful!
Thanks as always for your support!

MSU Students for the Broad Art Museum and Thrive With Less are providing you with a chance to connect with your community! On Wednesday October 17, we’ll be hosting an event at the Broad Art Museum’s fall annex, the former Barnes and Noble on Grand River Ave. in East Lansing. Attendees will have the opportunity to share some food, watch and discuss a documentary film, and, best of all, participate in a community art project! The project we’ll be working on is led by Los Angeles based artist Fritz Haeg. Haeg has been the artist in residence at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum this fall. His project is presented as a spirally stitched rug made of discarded textiles from the community. The community woven rug will be displayed in the museum’s education wing upon the museum’s grand opening on November 10. To make it even cooler, Haeg has been working on the rug right here in East Lansing, and many of us have helped create it. This event is your opportunity to get involved as well! And we’ll even show you how to help - no experience necessary!
Starting at 6:30, we’ll begin our evening with a potluck dinner. Bring a dish to pass, and you’ll get to share food with others in the community. Then, we’re going to sit down and watch the documentary film, Thrive With Less while we dine. Afterwards, we’ll take some time to discuss the film with the filmmakers while we work on the rug. We hope that you’ll join us for a great night of community engagement and art creation. Mark your calendars now!

Thrive With Less is officially here.

Today is the day

Sorry folks, we’re having some technical issues in uploading the file, so it wont be up right as noon as we originally planned. But keep on eye on Facebook and Twitter, we’ll let you know there as soon as it gets online. Thank you for your patience and support!

Today, five months of really really hard work comes to an end and we finally get to show you all what we’ve been working on so hard. Today, we are releasing Thrive With Less to the world for everyone to see.

We hope that you will take some time to check out the film today or in the near future. More importantly, we hope that you will come back and have a conversation about it with us - whether it’s digitally or in person. We’re aiming to help community grow in the production of this film, and we really want to hear what you think about it, good or bad. Whatever your reaction to it is, we hope that you will react, and that you’ll share what that means for you with us.

If this is your first time checking out Thrive With Less, be sure to look at our challenges page and read our story to get a little background and how we got here. We’ve also got tons of blogs and videos to check out if you want to go more in depth.

This has been a very long few months, and it’s going to be a bizarre experience to no longer have a constant flow of work to do on this project. But we’re all looking forward to people seeing it more than anything.

Thank you to everyone who has been along for the ride with us, your support has always come at a point where we needed it and has kept us going when things got difficult. We hope that you will continue with us as this film is seen by the public.

We do plan to keep this blog going and to continue sharing our experiences and the experiences of others as they relate to living minimally. So tune into the film, and stay tuned here, as we’ll have lots more to share as we move forward.

Again, thank you, and enjoy the film.

It’s time for another challenge…
